The Ochsner Cancer Institute is part of the Ochsner Cancer Network, the largest provider of cancer care in the Gulf South region. The network consists of 13 hospitals and outpatient centers. The flagship facility is Ochsner Medical Center, home of the state-of-the-art Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center. Ochsner takes the view that cancer is a multisystem disorder that influences all aspects of the lives of patients and their caregivers; therefore, a multidisciplinary approach to care has been adopted. U.S. News & World Report gives Ochsner top marks for use of advanced technologies and for providing patients with the most important types of cancer services. The institute offers support programs that include nutrition, oncology social-worker services, group encounters, healing yoga, survivorship clinic and emotions care. Ochsner’s oncology clinical research program is the largest in the region. Additionally, the institute participates in a state-funded cancer research consortium that includes laboratories at Louisiana State University, Tulane University and Xavier University.
