The American Nurses Credentialing Center has designated Rush University Cancer Center as a magnet center for cancer nursing. Most of the cancer center’s services are offered on an outpatient basis, with hospitalization as necessary at Rush University Medical Center. The center consists of state-of-the-art patient exam and procedure rooms, among them a chemotherapy area with 56 infusion stations, including 20 private ones. The center offers complementary therapies, including nutritional counseling, psychosocial counseling, massage therapy and acupuncture, all intended to promote a sense of well-being and maintain quality of life. Patients enjoy the use of a resource library featuring computers and reference materials. The American Cancer Society maintains an onsite navigator who helps patients and families coordinate treatment and support services.
